How do you verify people on Reddit before meeting? Looking for advice after a close call.
Hey everyone,
This is my first time trying to find an SB through Reddit, and I had a bit of a wake-up call.
I spent a day or two chatting with someone who claimed to be a woman. Thankfully, I decided to do a bit more verification before inviting them to meet, and I discovered they were actually a gay man pretending to be a woman. It could have turned into a really awkward situation if I hadn't checked first.
It made me realize that I probably don't know enough about verifying people safely before meeting.
For those of you who have been doing this for a while:
- What verification steps do you usually take?
- What are your non-negotiable checks before agreeing to meet?
- What are the biggest red flags you've learned to watch out for?
- Have you ever had similar experiences with fake profiles or catfishing?
I'm not trying to judge anyone's identity, my concern is simply that someone intentionally misrepresented themselves. I'd appreciate any advice on staying safe and avoiding scams or catfishing.
PS: Also is there any way that you guys use to prove to the SB that you are genuine ? I guess the truest issue goes both ways, if there anything that has worked consistently for you please share that as well. (Any SBs have any suggestions on this please feel free to comment or DM if you are concerned with privacy over a public comment, I genuinely would like to heard about your thoughts)
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!
