The Visitor Pt. 2 [M39/F36/M46][cheating][military][ punishment]
I got home for dinner a little earlier than expected.
When I walked through the front door, Mateo was stretched out on the sofa still playing Battlefield. He'd showered after the gym and changed into something considerably more comfortable than what he'd been wearing earlier, looking like he'd already started settling into our house.
I walked over, gave him a fist bump, and asked if there was anything else he needed.
“Nah, man. I'm good,” he said. Then he nodded toward the stairs. “Erica's been more than helpful.”
Something about the way he emphasized more registered with me.
Only for a second.
I knew Erica. If somebody needed something, she'd bend over backwards trying to make them comfortable, especially if they were one of my friends.
So I brushed it off.
I headed upstairs and found Erica getting dressed after her own post-gym shower.
I came up behind her, kissed her cheek, and told her I loved her. She leaned back into me almost automatically, and before long our innocent greeting turned into the kind of teasing we'd always done with each other.
Erica had complained for years that I enjoyed winding her up far more than I enjoyed giving her what she wanted immediately.
That night was no different.
Eventually she turned around, giving me that half-annoyed, half-amused look I'd seen hundreds of times.
“You're such a dick.”
I laughed.
“You always have to tease me and then leave me hanging.”
“Aw, baby, I have no idea what you're talking about.”
She rolled her eyes because we both knew that was complete bullshit.
I kissed her again.
Then I nodded toward downstairs.
“You sure you're okay with it just being you two tonight? I know you literally just met him.”
“Baby, shut up.”
She laughed.
“What do you think we're going to do, burn the house down?”
For just a second, her eyes drifted upward like some private thought had crossed her mind.
At the time, I didn't even register it.
“We'll be fine,” she continued. “If anything, you better check on him. I think I hurt his pride with my Battlefield skills.”
We laughed again.
As I walked out of the bedroom, I glanced back and saw Erica checking herself in the mirror.
Again, completely normal for her.
She liked looking good.
She liked feeling attractive.
Still, looking back now, there were details I remember differently.
She adjusted her clothes twice.
Fixed her hair.
And she'd put perfume on after her shower even though, as far as I knew, she wasn't leaving the house.
None of that meant anything to me then.
Mateo was still on the sofa when I came downstairs.
Erica followed me to the front door.
She kissed me goodbye.
“Don't get yourself into any trouble,” I joked.
She smiled that same big smile I'd seen at the gym earlier.
“Oh, don't worry. I'm sure Mateo can keep me out of trouble.”
Those were basically the last words she said to me before I left.
In hindsight, the irony is almost ridiculous.
What I didn't know was that sometime during the next few hours, both of them were going to start testing exactly where the lines were.
Everything I'm about to describe obviously happened after I'd already left. Erica told me most of it much later, after everything finally came out. Mateo filled in a couple of details himself eventually.
Apparently, after dinner, they went right back to Battlefield.
Erica opened a bottle of prosecco and poured them each a glass.
Then another.
They talked shit to each other while they played, and according to Erica, she was still absolutely destroying him.
At some point Mateo finally laughed and said something that changed the tone of the entire evening.
“For somebody who apparently thinks I'm the good-looking one out of Brad's friends, you're showing me absolutely no mercy.”
Erica told me later that she immediately felt her face getting hot.
“What?”
Mateo laughed.
“Come on. Brad told me.”
“Told you what?”
“That little comment you made when he showed you our old pictures.”
She immediately became defensive.
“I didn't say anything like that.”
“Sure.”
“I just said you're probably more attractive than most of his other friends.”
Mateo stared at her.
She stared back.
Then she laughed.
“Okay, fine. You're definitely the most attractive one.”
He smiled.
“But that doesn't mean anything.”
And that easily could have been where it ended.
It probably should have been where it ended.
They both laughed, blamed the prosecco for making the conversation weird, and went back to playing.
But Erica told me later that she couldn't stop thinking about the fact that Mateo now knew she found him attractive.
That awareness changed something.
Suddenly every glance felt more deliberate.
Every joke had a second meaning.
And less than a game later, Erica was the one who pushed things a little farther.
“Well,” she said, “it's not like I haven't caught you looking either.”
Mateo apparently went quiet.
Erica continued.
“I've seen your eyes wandering.”
Mateo could have denied it.
He didn't.
“Hold on,” he said. “You can't entirely blame me for that staircase stunt yesterday.”
According to Erica, she immediately smiled.
The fact that he'd noticed mattered to her more than she'd expected.
But Mateo also seemed to realize exactly where the conversation was heading.
He set the controller down for a second.
“Look, Brad's my friend.”
That immediately sobered the conversation.
“I'm not touching any of this. Let's just focus on the game.”
And this is one of the things I struggled with the most when Erica eventually told me what happened.
Because Mateo gave her an exit.
A clear one.
They'd acknowledged the attraction.
He'd acknowledged that he'd noticed her.
And then he deliberately tried to put the boundary back where it belonged.
All Erica had to do was let him.
She agreed.
They went back to the game.
But the conversation stayed in her head.
After another round, Erica got up to refill their glasses.
She told me later that she was standing in the kitchen thinking about what he'd said.
Brad's my friend.
I'm not touching any of this.
She knew exactly what he meant.
She also knew she should probably finish her drink, go upstairs, and call it a night.
Instead, she poured them both another glass.
When she came back into the living room, she walked over to Mateo and handed his drink directly to him instead of setting it on the table beside him.
She leaned in just slightly as she did.
According to Erica, she knew exactly what she was doing.
That was one of the harder things for her to admit to me later.
She could still tell herself she hadn't crossed any real line.
She hadn't kissed him.
She hadn't touched him inappropriately.
She hadn't said anything she couldn't technically explain away.
She had only handed him a drink.
But she wanted him to look at her.
And he did. His eyes lingered for a couple seconds too long at the cleavage in front of him, his friends wife’s large natural breasts hanging freely inches in front of his face.
Eventually he looked away.
Erica noticed.
She also noticed him shift uncomfortably and pull one of the sofa pillows across his lap.
That was the moment, she told me later, when everything became real.
Until then, she could pretend she was just enjoying some harmless flirting.
Now she knew.
Mateo wasn't simply being friendly.
He wasn't just humoring his buddy's wife.
He wanted her.
And for the first time that night, Erica had to admit something to herself that she definitely wasn't ready to admit to me. Her body betraying her loyal instincts as she felt a sudden warmth and wetness spread from between her thighs.
She wanted him to keep wanting her.
What I didn't understand until much later was that this was the moment Erica stopped wondering whether Mateo was attracted to her.
From that point forward, the question became what she was going to do with that information.
