I grew up super conservative and basically my dad used euphemisms to describe the act. « Self love » «  Odenism » he said it was a sin and I shouldn’t touch myself.

I wish he’d taught me how to masturbate, instead it was up to porn and hookups. I experimented a lot and followed
Tutorials but it always felt so isolating.

I feel like I learned fine over the years but made a lot of mistakes, chaffing, etc. I wonder how many here got a real education on masturbation, sex, body image and more.

After a number of conversations the prevailing consensus is :
- little to no adult instruction
- most common exploring with age peers and family
- runner up- I just figure it out when I touched myself.

QUESTION :
Should this culturally change ? How could it change and simultaneously help prevent all kinds of exploitation ?

I fear that leaving young boys and men in the dark about their bodies, joys, and challenges and consent in general is leading to so many problems in societies based on the varying degree of other factors. Allowing porn to be the authority feels really dangerous and I’m very pro porn. Allowing ignorance to fester invites abuse. Encouraging shame as the guardrail seems equally dangerous.
