It had only been a few weeks since the new disease was discovered, a rare malady unlike anything else that was previously known. Despite its impact on the lives of those afflicted, it wasn’t fatal or particularly dangerous from a health perspective, but its effects could be difficult to manage without intense daily intervention.

The Swelling Syndrome (as it had come to be known) affected people differently. Women who contracted this disease found their breasts producing an inhuman amount of milk, the glands and ducts constantly swelling as more and more fluid accumulated within their chest to the point of near immobility. Men afflicted with the syndrome might wake up with overly distended balls, full from a whole night’s worth of semen, completely taking up the space between their legs. Regardless of the gender, the management was the same: periodic draining. Mild cases could be managed with being drained once a day, but those with severe or advanced pathologies might need continuous evacuation of their affected body parts.

Research into the condition had only just started, but no clear cure was yet within reach. This left the few survivors of the swelling syndrome little choice but to try and live their lives as normally as possible with their engorged and massive body parts. How long must they endure? Months? Years? Longer than that?
