Is it innate, or something more?

The question by u/orangebanana990 had me thinking about telling my best friend about the romantic circumstances between my son and I, and a specific conversation came to mind.

It's important I preface this the fact that she wasn't immediately ecstatic about it, though she was supportive, and it's taken her some time and a lot of effort on her part to even comfortably sit through an evening with us after we've all had some wine and my son and I start getting kissy.

One evening, on a girl's night out, and after way too much wine, her curiosity overwhelmed her inhibitions and she started asking questions belying her own 'morbid curiosity' (her words) on the subject.

When she got home she sent me a drunk text saying she's going to try look at her own son differently, which I get (and found both encouraging and weird), and the next time we met I asked her how she felt about it. She said she could never imagine him as anything more than her son.

This got me thinking: is the capacity for consang romantic feelings therefore something more akin to a sexuality, perhaps, or is it something that's innate in all of us?
