Hey everyone,

I’m a gay guy working in healthcare, and I’ve been thinking about how nice it would be to connect with others in the same field who are also gay. I feel like we’d naturally have a lot in common — the weird hours, the emotional side of the job, the dark humor that only people in medicine understand, etc. — but I’m not sure where to start.

Work isn’t really the place to bring it up. The environment is professional and serious, and randomly asking colleagues “so… are you gay?” feels invasive and awkward. I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable or mix personal life with work too much.

Are there good, low-pressure ways to meet gay healthcare professionals outside of the hospital/clinic? Apps are okay but feel pretty random. I’m more interested in spaces where the shared career background is part of the vibe.

Do any of you know of:

  • LGBTQ+ healthcare worker groups, associations, or networks?
  • Regular meetups, mixers, or events (virtual or in-person)?
  • Discord servers, subreddits, or online communities specifically for queer folks in medicine?
  • Other creative ideas I might be missing?

Appreciate any thoughtful suggestions!

Thanks in advance 😊
