Moving from Jordan to Germany , how realistic is dating/social life there for a foreigner?
Hey guys,
I’m a doctor from Jordan and I’m planning to move to Germany soon. My German is currently around A2 and I’m pushing to get it up to B1/B2 before I go.
Career-wise, I know the start won’t be easy and I might end up working in a healthcare assistant-type job before I can fully continue as a doctor there.
I’m also not moving just for work , I want more personal freedom in general, and to live in a place where I can be myself more openly and hopefully build a life and eventually settle down with someone in a natural way over time.
What’s been on my mind more lately is the social side, especially dating.
I’m gay and I’m wondering how realistic it is to actually meet someone and build something meaningful in Germany as a foreigner who’s still learning the language and adjusting culturally.
I’ve heard mixed things , some people say Germany is quite open, others say it can feel a bit distant socially and that it takes time to really connect with people.
I guess I’m just trying to understand what the reality is like on the ground. Is dating difficult if you’re still improving your German? And do people tend to be open to someone who’s new, foreign, and still finding their footing professionally?
Would really appreciate honest experiences or advice from anyone who’s been in a similar situation.
