[META] Community Project: Building an FAQ on finding an age gap partner

What this is about

One of the most common topics on this subreddit is some variation of:

  • “How do I find an age gap partner?”
  • “How do I approach someone older/younger?”
  • “How do I know if someone is genuinely interested?”
  • “What apps, places, or situations work best?”

These questions are understandable and welcome, but they also come up so frequently that it has become difficult to handle them consistently. We would like to create a focused community-written FAQ/resource specifically about finding and meeting age gap partners so we can direct repetitive questions there instead of constantly re-answering the same topics.

This project is intentionally about the search and early dating stage, not about maintaining a long-term relationship, managing family dynamics, or general relationship advice.

How this will work

If you want to contribute, write your proposed FAQ as a top-level comment on this post.

Treat your comment like a draft of a future sticky/resource post. Other users can reply with suggestions, criticism, additions, or corrections, and you can continue editing your comment over time.

After the discussion settles, moderators will select the version that best fit the subreddit based on:

  • community feedback and upvotes
  • usefulness and clarity
  • tone and practicality
  • moderator discretion

The selected author will then be invited to post the finalized version themselves so the resource is properly attributed to the person who created it rather than posted under the moderator account.

Suggested topics

The final version of the FAQ would ideally cover these things

  • Where age gap couples commonly meet
  • Dating apps and how to use them effectively
  • Offline/social approaches
  • How to signal interest appropriately
  • Common mistakes people make when seeking age gap relationships
  • What tends to work vs. what usually does not
  • Advice specific to older men/younger women, older women/younger men, same-sex couples, etc.

A few guidelines

  • Keep it constructive and practical.
  • Stay focused on finding, meeting, and early-stage dating.
  • Avoid turning submissions into general relationship guides.
  • Avoid misogyny/misandry/general hostility.
  • Avoid pickup-artist style manipulation advice.
  • Personal experience is welcome, but try to distinguish anecdote from general advice.

The goal is to create a genuinely useful resource for newcomers while also reducing repetitive threads and moderation inconsistency around this topic.

Looking forward to seeing what the community comes up with.
