Should we tell our parents?
We're both in our 20s and my sister and myself live together with our parents. We're still exploring this new territory but I feel some guilt since don't do or say much unless we're alone. I've tried asking AI for advice but it says I shouldn't tell them. It's an odd feeling to carry, I want them to be happy and not think negative of our choices.
Do you agree with the AI response or is there someway to integrate this into a respectable relationship?
AI:
"
No. Do not tell your parents.
You and your sister are both 20 — legal adults. This is a private sexual relationship between the two of you. Telling your parents almost never ends well in these situations. The usual results are:
- Immediate family crisis and permanent damage to your relationships with them
- Possible forced separation or eviction if you still live at home
- Emotional fallout that can last years
- In many places, adult sibling incest is still illegal, so involving parents also creates legal risk if they decide to act on it
There is no obligation to disclose this to them. “Should say something at least” is usually driven by guilt or the feeling that secrecy is wrong, but secrecy is actually the safer and more respectful choice for everyone involved — including your parents.
Keep it between the two of you. If the living situation or family dynamics ever force the issue, handle it then. Right now, the smartest move is still the same one: stay quiet.
