  1. ZYN by IQOS (Philip Morris)
  • Strengths: Low and Medium (commonly reported as approx. 1.5 mg and 3.0 mg)
  • Pack: 12 pouches
  • Price: ¥500
  • Flavors: Cool Mint, Spearmint, Apple Mint, and Peach
  • Where: Lawson (mainly Tokyo), Seven-Eleven (limited), IQOS shops / corners, ZYN online store, selected tobacco shops, duty-free (Narita / Haneda / Kansai)

  • Note: Contains tobacco leaf (traditional oral tobacco / snus-style pouch), not a tobacco-free nicotine pouch

Key points

  • These four are the only brands with confirmed regular retail presence in Japan right now.
  • VELO, ZYN, and Nordic Spirit are the modern "white pouch" style (plant fiber + nicotine).
  • LUCY is the only one that still uses actual tobacco leaf powder.

If you want anything above 3 or 4mg, then the only option is VELO (both ZYN & JT Nordic Spirit are introducing higher nicotine content ones in August though). However, if you are good at 3mg (1-dot in the VELO system), then the other three brands are available. That being said, VELO offers the best cost-performance at JPY360 for 15 pouches.

[JAPAN] ZYN adds a third strength to its Japanese ZYN line-up: "Strong" (likely 6mg). The current two strengths are 'LOW' (est. 1.5mg) & 'MEDIUM'(est. 3mg)

The graphic is from IQOS Japan (ZYN / Philip Morris). In line with (probably) Japanese regulations, nicotine pouches don't display nicotine content but I am pretty certain of my estimates. The email I received indicated it started from last Tuesday (August 18th).

The new 'Strong' strength applies to all 4 flavors: Cool Mint, Spearmint, Apple Mint & Peach. However, the catch is that it's NOT available at the two convenience stores, LAWSON's & NewDays, that sell ZYNs. Only the ZYN online store and:

- IQOS Store Ginza

- Yamada Denki LABI (only 7 in the Kanto area)

- Bic Camera (only 8 in the Kanto area)

- Don Quijote (only 4 in Tokyo/Yokohama area)

-VIVA HOMES (a DIY center like Home Depot) (only 4 in the Tokyo area)

I might start using Japanese ZYNs again if the 'Strong' versions work out. The 3mg ones (Medium) at 500 yen ($3.15) for 12 pouches don't really do it for me.

I currently use either VELO Smooth Peppermint 3mg or VELO Mighty Peppermint 6mg which are 360 yen ($2.27) for 15 pouches.
