Did I fumble?
Was I missing obvious opportunities to talk to a girl at the gym, or am I overthinking it?
Yesterday I was doing cable tricep pushdowns at the gym. Two of the cutest girls in the gym came over and started using the cable station next to me.
I finished a set and went to refill my water bottle. When I came back, they were using the cable station I had been using. I didn’t say anything and just bent down to pick up my phone. During that moment, I made brief eye contact with one of them.
A few minutes later, I noticed they asked a random guy nearby for help adjusting the cable setup. At the time I didn’t think much of it, but later I wondered if that could have been an opportunity for me to interact with them instead.
Fast forward to today. One of those girls was at the gym again. We made eye contact twice during the workout. Then a few minutes later she came over and stood near a machine right next to me. The thing is, the machine was occupied and there didn’t seem to be any reason for her to be standing there.
Now I’m wondering if I’m reading too much into this or if she might have been trying to create an opportunity for conversation and I completely missed it.
For those of you who have experience with gym dating or meeting people at the gym:
Does any of this sound like genuine interest?
Was I missing obvious openings to start a conversation?
What’s the best way to naturally talk to someone at the gym without coming across as creepy or interrupting their workout?
Curious to hear honest opinions, even if the answer is that I’m completely overthinking it.
