For submissive women: does TPE need high protocol to feel like TPE?

I have spent roughly 20 years of my life in TPE relationships, and there is one thing about the way TPE is often described that genuinely bothers me.

It is frequently associated with high protocol.

Lots of rituals. Formal rules. Prescribed behaviour. Specific ways of speaking, dressing, presenting yourself, asking permission, and generally making the power dynamic visible throughout everyday life.

I understand why that can be appealing.

But personally, I have never liked it very much.

The reason is not that I want less authority. Quite the opposite. I am very comfortable with extremely clear authority.

What bothers me is the idea of gradually shaping a submissive into some predefined version of what I want her to be, or even into some jointly agreed idea of what the “ideal” submissive should become.

I want her to remain herself.

Her opinions, tastes, interests, friendships, projects, humour, curiosity, strange habits, and all the things about her that I would never have invented myself.

If over time submission simply makes her more and more like some designed version of an ideal submissive, I think something important gets lost.

What I want instead sounds almost paradoxical:

TPE with very strong authority, but also a huge amount of personal freedom.

The authority can be completely real without needing to be constantly displayed.

She can have her own opinions, make decisions, develop her own interests, change, surprise me, and remain very much her own person, while both of us still know perfectly well where final authority sits.

In fact, I think there is something attractive about that tension itself. The more freedom she has to be fully herself, the more meaningful the submission can become when authority actually matters.

So I am genuinely curious about the submissive side of this:

Does TPE need high protocol to feel like TPE to you?

Could you feel that you are in a TPE relationship where you were given a great deal of freedom to simply be yourself?

And if high protocol is important to you, what does it give you that the underlying authority alone does not?

For younger partners in age-gap relationships: is maturity what keeps the age gap from becoming the whole relationship?

One thing I wonder about with larger age gaps is how much the younger partner’s maturity matters over the long term.

At the beginning, the difference in experience can be part of the attraction. One person has simply lived more, seen more, made more mistakes, and probably has more confidence in certain areas.

That difference itself can create chemistry. There may be more guidance, more contrast in perspective, and a different kind of dynamic than with someone at the same stage of life.

I can understand why that is appealing.

But I am not sure that difference alone can carry an entire relationship forever.

At some point, I imagine it becomes important that the younger partner is not just “the younger one,” but someone with her own judgment, competence, opinions and direction.

Otherwise the age gap risks becoming the whole structure of the relationship instead of just one interesting part of it.

To me, that seems like one of the places where maturity probably matters most. Not maturity in the sense of pretending the age difference does not exist, but enough maturity that both people can enjoy what the difference brings without being defined by it.

So I am curious about younger people here who are in, or have been in, serious age-gap relationships:

Do you think your own maturity is one of the main things that makes an age-gap relationship work long term?

And how do you keep the difference in age and experience interesting without letting it become the entire identity of the relationship?

45 [M4F] Switzerland / Europe — looking for a capable, feminine woman to build a family with

I want one life built together: children, a warm home, friends around the table, mountains, travel, culture, ridiculous late-night conversations, and probably far too many projects.

I’m attracted to women who are feminine but not fragile; curious, warm, thoughtful, a little sharp, and very much their own person. I don’t want someone who disappears behind a man. I value opinions, initiative, competence, and enough confidence to tell me when I’m wrong.

You don’t need an impressive CV or a wall full of degrees. I care much more about whether your mind is alive. I enjoy conversations that wander through history, science, business, psychology, culture, politics, art, people, or whatever strange rabbit hole appears that evening. Ideally, you have things you can teach me too.

I’m not looking for two careers running in parallel. I want to provide, and I’m looking for a woman who genuinely wants her main work to be our home, our children, and the life we build around them.

That means being deeply involved in raising them, creating the rhythm of the household, building traditions, hosting friends and family, making the home somewhere people want to be, and taking real ownership of that part of our life.

That does not mean being passive or dependent. Quite the opposite. I want someone I can rely on, whose judgment I respect, and whose perspective genuinely matters to me.

At the same time, I am looking for a relationship with clear roles.

I want your opinions, your intelligence and your honesty. I expect you to tell me clearly when you think I’m wrong and to explain why.

But our roles are not symmetrical. Final responsibility for the direction of the family is mine.

Once a decision has been made, I’m looking for a woman who genuinely wants to follow that direction rather than continue treating it as an open negotiation. For me, being heard and being valued do not require equal final authority.

I also want a woman who sees what her husband is building as part of the shared family project.

Not someone standing decoratively behind him, but someone close enough to understand what he is trying to achieve; someone who can challenge his thinking, advise him, support him, help create the environment around him, and become the person whose judgment he values most.

My outlook is probably classic without being especially ideological. I like femininity, motherhood, family, clear roles, and a man who takes responsibility for leading and providing for his family because that is the life that appeals to me. I don’t need to believe every couple should make the same choice.

As for me: I’m 45 and based in Switzerland. My background is a slightly unusual mixture of science, technology, leadership and too many interests. I’m established, curious, active, and much more interested now in building the next part of life than advertising the previous one.

Practically: you’re ideally 27–32, currently living in Europe, genuinely want marriage and children, genuinely want to be at home rather than maintain a separate career, and would be open to relocating to Switzerland if we eventually discover that this is the relationship we both want. A small deviation from the age range is perfectly fine if the fit is exceptional.

If this resonates, don’t send me a résumé. Send me a chat answering the following question:

If you could design your future family life without worrying about what anybody else expected from you, what would an ordinary Tuesday look like?

For submissive women: do you feel punishment is necessary for you to grow in submission?

First, I mean punishment, not funishment.

Funishment is play. The mock seriousness, the ritual, the physical sensation, the tension around “being punished” — that can be great fun, and I think most of us understand the difference.

What I’m talking about here is real punishment used as a tool to shape behavior or enforce obedience.

Personally, I don’t like punishment, and I tend not to use it.

Part of the reason is how I understand the role of a Master.

If I take responsibility as her Master, then I also take responsibility for helping her grow within that submission. If something repeatedly goes wrong, if she struggles to follow, develops habits I think are bad for her, or simply isn’t progressing in a direction I believe is good for her, my instinct is not:

“How do I punish her for this?”

My first question is:

“What have I failed to do?”

Was the expectation clear?
Was it realistic?
Did I understand what was actually happening with her?
Was the structure appropriate?
Did I give her what she needed to succeed?

To me, that is part of taking authority seriously. If I claim the authority of a Master, I also have to accept responsibility when the dynamic is not producing the result I intended.

I understand the behavioral argument for punishment and reward. They work. You can absolutely shape behavior through consequences and reinforcement.

But that isn’t the kind of submission I ultimately want to build.

I don’t want her to obey because she is afraid of being punished.

I don’t want her to obey because she is trying to earn a reward.

I want her submission to become increasingly internal: she follows because she knows deeply that giving herself to the relationship, accepting my dominance, and living within the role she has chosen makes her happier, gives her direction, and helps her grow.

That doesn’t mean weak expectations or vague authority. Quite the opposite. The structure can be very clear and the dominance very real.

But when she fails, I would rather understand why, look first at how I have guided her, and help her develop than automatically turn that failure into something deserving punishment.

So I’m genuinely curious about the submissive side of this:

Do you feel that real punishment is something you need in order to grow in submission?

If you were in a relationship with clear authority, strong expectations, guidance and accountability but essentially no real punishment, would something feel missing?

And if punishment is important to you, what does it give you that dominance, structure and guidance alone do not?
