18[F4A], Asian Bleached in Sorority Hazing

Hi everyone,

First year college student here, Asian F. So I posted before about my challenges wrapping around my head around Greek Life and being in college in the SEC, . Long story short, because of greek life hazing or whatever, I was matched to hook up with a guy from the much larger white frat even though I had a bf. My older posts were more complainy in tone because I didnt know how to deal with the situation.

I recently spoke to some people about this and they helped me understand i need to learn to focus more on the positive by relying on positive delusion as a coping mechanism. Instead of complaining about the situation, look at it more learn a trauma bond i got to experience with my sisters and that it was actually a good thing that I got to take care of this white man despite having bfs. It was all part of the college experience. I admit i'm still working on this.

I cant promise that i wont drift back to the negative thinking and complaining but ill try to do better. :)

Asian Bleached in Sorority Hazing

Hi everyone,

First year college student here, Asian F. So I posted before about my challenges wrapping around my head around Greek Life hazing and being in college in the SEC, but im trying to work with a new way to cope with the anxiety and stress from it .

Long story short, because of greek life hazing initiation -which they told us originally we wouldnt have any at rush, I was matched to hook up with a guy from the much larger white frat even though I had a bf. My older posts were more complainy in tone because I didnt know how to deal with the situation.

Coerced into "Bleaching" from Sorority Initiation

New here, not sure if this is the right place but it is coercion sex related so I was recommended here. I’m a first-year Asian f in college, and honestly, I’ve always felt a little sheltered before coming here. But being on campus has been a total eye-opener.

One thing that really shocked me was Greek life. I went through a brutal hazing process to join a sorority, and honestly, it was kind of messed up. The sorority itself is an asian sorority. We are a small group that cannot survive off membership dues alone because we are in the part of the country with very little diversity. We used to get university subsidy but they recently cut that out for us.

Since the university stopped funding race-based organizations recently, we don’t have much financial support anymore. Without the subsidy we can't survive off dues alone. Meanwhile, the white fraternities have tons of money and can run events off their membership dues, because they have the sheer numbers. so we ended up having to share events with them because they co sponsor us and share event space with us. The problem is I felt like our pledge group was handed over to the white fraternities for hookups for the initiation to allow for this partnership and co sponsoring of events.

The whole situation didn’t sit right with me, especially when it started to feel racial undertones were influencing how things went down. Some of the frat guys’ behavior felt really off, and when I tried to set boundaries—like telling them I have a boyfriend and felt this haze was not appropriate for us—they dismissed me. They said hooking up is just how Greek life works and that it’s not racism, it’s “bleaching." Basically, I was told I was overreacting.

Now I’m left wondering… am I being gaslit, or is this just the culture in Greek life?

New to all this and including this sub so please no judgment, accusations or assumptions. Thanks!
