Background: I was interested in attending a house party that was promoted on Fetlife. Hostess requests a pre-payment before she'll even consider your application.
I provided most of the info that hostess required which included a vetting procedure based on personal connection, a mutual connection or letters of reference. I provided a mutual connection as my reference but Hostess did not reply until a few hours before the party. Given the timing & since it was the weekend, I figured it might be hard to get a hold of a friend to write a reference letter in time so I asked if I could use the pre-payment towards the next social gathering instead. No reply. I realized after that there was the following clause:
PLEASE NOTE: Any payments made by invitees who are NOT approved will be considered a donation to the Manor.
After seeing this, I contacted the Hostess an hour before the party was starting to see if I could still provide a reference letter so I could go to the party. No reply.
To me this is bs because
How would you handle this situation?
